Tammy Penny has always felt most at home outdoors. Whether biking quiet backroads, gliding through the woods on cross-country skis, or hiking into the high peaks, being in nature is where she feels energized and connected. Of all her outdoor pursuits, hiking has become her greatest passion. Tammy is currently working on completing New Hampshire’s 48 iconic 4,000-footers, a goal that reflects both her love of challenge and her joy in exploring the state’s most beautiful places.

Although she has logged countless miles on trails over the years, Tammy still vividly remembers her first solo hike in 2020 at Cutter Woods. That adventure—equal parts nerves and exhilaration—sparked her confidence as a hiker and deepened her appreciation for Pelham’s local conservation lands. Today, she has come full circle, leading Pelham Pathways hikes in the very place where her solo journey began.
Tammy also shares her enthusiasm with a variety of local hiking groups, organizing outings that welcome both new and experienced hikers. Her favorite part of guiding is encouraging others to discover the simple joy of being outside together—whether that’s reaching a mountain summit or taking a quiet walk along a familiar neighborhood trail.
When you join Tammy on a hike, you’ll find her eager to share trail stories, point out natural details, and create an atmosphere where everyone feels comfortable and inspired to keep exploring.
