Governor’s Commendation

A Community Effort, a Statewide Honor

Pelham Pathways receives Governor’s Commendation • October 21, 2026

Every trail cared for, garden planted, hike guided, and neighbor welcomed begins with someone willing to help.

On October 21, Pelham Pathways received a commendation from Governor Kelly Ayotte during the Governor and Executive Council meeting in Pelham. The recognition honors our work to protect natural spaces, welcome people of all ages and abilities outdoors, and build a healthier, more connected community.

The commendation highlights the Community Trail Coalition, Celebration Park, and the development of Harmony Park in partnership with Pulpit Rock Lodge. It also recognizes an extraordinary contribution: 63 volunteers providing 5,690 hours of service in the first ten months of the year.

These hours represent people planting and watering, building and maintaining, organizing activities, sharing knowledge, and bringing neighbors together. Local businesses, community organizations, and town partners strengthen that work by contributing their time, expertise, and resources.

Accepting the commendation on behalf of Pelham Pathways, Chairperson Yvonne La-Garde said:

“This commendation belongs to our volunteers, members, donors, and partners. It honors what people can accomplish when they share a vision and put their hands to work.”

We extend our thanks to Governor Ayotte and the Executive Council for this recognition, and to Councilor Janet Stevens for her advocacy in helping make Virginia’s All Persons Trail possible.

Above all, thank you to everyone helping preserve Pelham’s rural character while opening the outdoors to all.
