Hike Guide | Trail Steward | Appalachian Mountain Club Leader
Tim Kennedy is widely known as the quiet guardian of Pelham’s town forests. For years, he has cared—largely on his own and entirely by hand—for more than 23 miles of local trails, clearing fallen trees, repairing erosion, installing water bars, and maintaining bridges with deep respect for the land. Many walkers never see him at work, but they experience the results every time they step onto a Pelham trail.
A lifelong hiker, Tim began hiking in the late 1960s and went on to serve as a trip leader with the Appalachian Mountain Club for more than 45 years, leading winter hikes across New Hampshire’s 4,000-foot peaks. He has completed the Hundred Highest in winter, “The Grid,” and—most recently—climbed all 48 New Hampshire 4,000-footers after turning 80, placing him among a very small group to achieve that milestone
Tim brings to each hike a calm presence, deep trail knowledge, and a practical, safety-first approach grounded in decades of experience. He believes strongly in preparation, good judgment, and moving at a pace that allows hikers to truly notice the landscape around them.
Beyond the trails, Tim has spent years teaching rock climbing to children and adults, including individuals with neurological challenges and Parkinson’s disease. His philosophy is simple and inspiring: movement matters, purpose doesn’t retire, and the outdoors should be welcoming to everyone.
Pelham Pathways is honored to have Tim Kennedy share his knowledge, stories, and love of the land as a hike guide.
